29th March 2019 – Offa’s Dyke Association’s 50th anniversary
In 2019 the ODA will celebrate its 50th birthday throughout the entire year with events planned at the Offa’s Dyke Centre here in Knighton and further afield along the length of the Dyke and National Trail. A steering group has been set up to coordinate the planning and we will keep you informed via this page just as soon as we have dates for your diary.
The precise anniversary is 29th March 2019 which is fifty years to the day since our founder Frank Noble held a public meeting in the Victoria Hall in Knighton to gauge the level of support for the then proposed ODA. A motion was duly passed that a committee be formed and the rest, well, is history. The story is actually a very complex one and the ODA’s origins can be traced back to 1959 of which we will tell more here but if you are member then you will be able to read first about those early days in the forthcoming winter edition of our Newsletter.
We want as many towns and villages along the Dyke and Trail to benefit from the celebrations. Thanks to Kington Walks for agreeing to hold four walks along Offa’s Dyke Path during their spring weekend events. If your community is interested in organising an event and affiliating it to our 50th anniversary then please get in touch by calling 01547 528753 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
We would love to hear from anyone with memories of those early days of the ODA along the Dyke.
